About Us
Muslim Marriage Event is an initiative to tackle the problems in searching for a spouse in an Islamic framework.
It is a complimentary service to existing approaches such as families, masjids, databases and agencies. Participants are expected to register their interest and attend the event with the intention of matrimonial purposes only. Meetings with the opposite gender are arranged through short, thematic group introductions and profile cards. It is important to recognise that finding a suitable spouse is a challenge for Muslims today.
It has to be addressed practically, not just through lectures and seminars about the juristic nature of marriage and the ideal scenario. Education of the whole community is required, including parents and even the ‘ulamâ who also need to work with social scientists such as marriage counsellors and psychotherapists to find realistic solutions.
We hope that the marriage event will be a humble product of this. Such initiatives are new to the community, and they need to be tested within the framework of the Sharî‘ah. It will take time for us to fully understand them but they can only improve if people participate in them, take them seriously, facilitate their organisation, and provide constructive feedback.
As part of the education the community, we also organise debates, discussions and seminars related to the family, marriage and relationships which helps to raise important issues in the community.
Background:
Who is it organised by and history
“Actions are based on intentions” (Hadith – Bukhari)
“And of His signs is this: He created for you mates from yourself that you might find rest in them, and He ordained between you love and mercy. Lo, therein indeed are portents for folk who reflect“.
(Quran 30:21)
It was narrated from Aishah(ra) that: the Messenger of Allah(saw) said: “Marriage is part of my sunnah, and whoever does not follow my sunnah has nothing to do with me. Get married, for I will boast of your great numbers before the nations. Whoever has the means, let him get married, and whoever does not, then he should fast for it will diminish his desire. ( Hadith – Sunan Ibn Majah – Book 9, Hadith 1919)
and thus our main purpose is to seek the pleasure of Allah swt. And we wish to do that by reviving a Sunnah of the Prophet (saw) – Marriage. There are many Islamic virtues of getting married, it’s importance and reward. Please consult your local Imam/Scholar or Islamic Organisation about this BEFORE embarking on the path.
